Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications and nominations for non-tenure-track positions at the level of Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). The ECE department is currently undertaking a vigorous program of expansion under the leadership of a new Chair. A newly formed partnership with the School of Medicine and an influx of Federal funding are enabling the launch of several new research areas. These non-tenure track positions require outstanding scholars and researchers in electrical and computer engineering who possess the ability to develop new research programs and to assume teaching responsibilities at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidates will have educational backgrounds in electrical or computer engineering or a closely related field and will be highly motivated to undertake collaborative research with other departments within the School of Engineering and with other schools throughout the university, particularly the School of Medicine. The successful candidates will have the ability to organize and lead interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research teams in a major research university, compete for extramural funding at the highest levels, and will possess records of scholarship sufficient to justify appointment to research positions at the assistant professor level. Teaching experience is highly desirable. An earned PhD. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, informatics or a related area is required, and experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: analog and digital systems design, modeling of electronic and biological systems, biomedical signal and image processing, nanotechnology, and renewable energy. UAB is a research oriented university with over $430 million in active grants and contracts, 16,784 students, and 2249 faculty. The appointment is nine (9) months with rank, and salary to be commensurate with experience.
The candidate should have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Expertise in mechanical systems and design, mechatronics, or robotics/automation is preferred along with a track record of quality teaching experience at all levels. The candidate is expected to provide leadership in the education programs in close collaboration with the Computational Simulations and Enabling Technologies teams.
