Dan Butcher (M.A., English, and MLIS, LSU, 1990) came to UAB in 2001 to teach composition online as well as traditional sections of general literature courses. He also serves as the webmaster for the department and redesigned the site in the fall of 2002. Prior to moving to Birmingham, he taught for 8 years at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he served as editor for two editions of a freshman reader, Acts of Discovery
(1996, 1998). He co-authored the companion website
for the second edition of The Allyn and Bacon Guide to Writing
(1999). He has published 2 articles on pedagogy, reviewed a number of composition texts for publishers, and has presented at a variety of national and regional conferences. He has also done freelance document design work for Harcourt and the Louisiana Department of Education.
