Program Description (revised 8/2005)
Program Description: This is a neatly printable document that sets forth most of the basic "rules" of the graduate program. Also, current students and faculty will likely find it helpful to consult this description of the "Program Paperwork" (along with the checklists for both Plan I and Plan II students) which sets forth the various forms and documents that need to be completed for a timely graduation. To insure that students and their GSC advisors stay on track, we also require students with 18 or more hours of graduate course credit to file an "Annual Report" explaining their plans to complete the degree.
Graduate Student Handbook
The UAB Graduate School publishes a handbook that sets forth many of the administrative policies that govern all UAB graduate students. If you are puzzled about a policy or have questions about what is and is not allowed by the Graduate School, this document is the first resource to consult.
Assistantship Materials
There are a few assistantships offered through the Graduate School and through the Dean's Office of the School of Arts and Humanities that can offer both financial support and teaching experience to qualified graduate students. For a description of these assistantships, see this document. Also, the assistantship application form is available here as a Rich Text Format (RTF) document that should be useable in most word processing software.
Additional Forms Available for Download or Online Submission
The complete listing of Graduate School Forms offers several documents of particular interest to English graduate students, including admissions forms, non-degree admissions forms, applications for admission to candidacy, applications for degrees, etc. Also, the English department form for establishing an individual student's Graduate Studies Committee is available here.
