Dr.
Powell was born in Colbert County, Alabama. He received his
Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama
in 1962, and graduated from the University of Alabama School
of Medicine in 1967. He was a fellow in the Department of
Pathology, University of Alabama Medical School in 1965-66.
He served his internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham,
Department of Pathology in 1967 and 1968. Dr. Powell completed
a fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute
of Pathology, Washington, D.C. in 1971. Dr. Powell completed
a residency in Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute,
Miami, Florida in 1974.
Dr. Powell
has been a member of the UAB Department of Ophthalmology since
1974. Dr. Powell is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology
and American Board of Pathology.
