FLL Course Descriptions

FLL 101. Special Foreign Language Topics—Introduction to a less-commonly-taught
language and culture, language selection rotates. 3 hours.

FLL 120. Foreign Cultures—Exploration of the customs, traditions, languages, ancestry,
religions, values, and institutions of varied western and non-western nations through the use of
humanities disciplines; investigation of culture and language as it interacts with historical,
geographical, political, social, and economic forces. 3 hours. Core Area II.

FLL 220. Foreign Literatures in English Translation—Exploration of the literary traditions,
trends, and approaches to the study of global cultures. 3 hours.

FLL 303. History of World Movies I: The Origins to 1960—From the first silent movies to
the development of the modern color sound movie of Hollywood in the fifties: comparison and
contrast of the views of major filmmakers of the sixty years of the 20th Century. 3 hours.

FLL 304. History of World Movies II—From the modern color sound movie of the fifties and
the Nouvelle Vague to the latest movies produced around the globe: comparison and contrast of
the views of filmmakers of the last forty years. 3 hours.

FLL 333. Foreign Language Internship—Foreign Language majors have the opportunity to
work on an internship in the community before graduation date. FLL 333 credit normally counts
towards general electives credit and cannot replace language courses. Under exceptional
circumstances, however, Internships may replace the required study-abroad program if approved
by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures Chairperson. Pre-requisites: 6 hours at
the 300 level or equivalent; Sophomore standing; 2.7 G.P.A. minimum. Click here for more info.

FLL 485. Foreign Language Seminar—Advanced seminar on broad cultural and cross-cultural
topics in foreign languages; taught in English, readings and assignment in foreign languages.
Preq: Must have completed at least 6 semester hours at the 300-level of student's target language
track. 3 hours.

FLL 585. Foreign Language Seminar—Advanced seminar on broad cultural and cross-cultural
topics in foreign languages; taught in English, readings and assignment in foreign languages.
