Spanish Speaking World Series Wraps up '05

         BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - On November 29, Mr. Fernando Palacios wrapped up the '05 Spanish Speaking World Series with an enthusiastic, entertaining yet still educational look at his native country of Chile. Previously in October, Mr. David Taylor presented his photojourney of Costa Rica. Students were amazed by all that Costa Rica and Chile have to offer. The series will continue in the Spring '06 semester so check the Spanish Department webpage for lineup information and dates.

2005 Spanish Speaking World Series

         BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures presented the first installment of this years Spanish Speaking World Series. Professor Belita Faki gave a great talk on the linguistic influence of Italian immigrants on Spanish-speaking South America. Click here for the video.

Colonel Wolfgang Samuel:
"War in the Eyes of a Child"

         BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - On Friday, September 16th, The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures, The UAB Department of History and the AlabamaGermany Partnership presented Colonel Wolfgang Samuel: War in the Eyes of a Child . The talk was a compelling glimpse into his own life growing up in Nazi Germany and how his experience led him to write his newest book German Boy. Click here for video of Colonel Samuel's talk.

2005 Foreign Languages for the Professions Panel

         BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures presented the 2005 Foreign Languages for the Professions Panel. The panel included Dr. Isabel Scarinci of the UAB School of Medicine, Ms. Vivian Mora, Vice President of KPI Latino, Mr. Keith Cullen of the UAB Career Services Center and Mr. Richard Newton of Dummier & Newton, LLC.
