What's it all about? The Spanish Club is an organization that encompasses a diverse group of enthusiasts of the Spanish language and of Hispanic cultures. As an organization, we strive to improve our language skills and cultural understanding. We participate in numerous activities, such as the UAB International Bazaar, monthly/weekly conversational dinners, and we host such events as 2004's Latin Dance Explosion (Click here to watch slide show).

If you have never attended a meeting before and want to know what takes place, all we do is discuss our Spanish classes for a while, sign up for volunteer/community service projects in Birmingham, and plan fun events/parties that Spanish Club hosts such as El Dia de los Muertos(Fall) and Cinco de Mayo(Spring) as well as Latin Dance Party(Spring).
  

  
 Membership Information

Anyone with an interest in Spanish language and culture is welcome to attend Spanish Club meetings and events. To become an official member, however, one must pay $7 dues that are used to fund the numerous activities Spanish Club plans. Dues can be paid at meetings/events, or given to Professor Tommy Skinner (HB room 412). Official members get free desserts at certain conversation tables and other benefits that arise throughout the semester. Club members are also invited to become active leaders in the club.

All levels of Spanish speakers are invited. Also click here to check the Department of Foreign Languages Language Table web page. Tutoring at the... UAB child development center has been postponed until the Spring semester. This is still a great volunteer opportunity, so feel free to contact a Spanish Club officer for more information.

 

 

Past Events

September 14, 2006
Celebration of Mexican Independence Day (which is actually Sept. 16),
the Spanish Club is showing a movie at the HUC Alumni Auditorium
from 1:00-3:00 on Thursday, Sept. 14.

August 24, 2006
Student Life Day in the Mini Park 11:30 - 2:00.
Student Life Day is designed to inform students
about life beyond the classroom. Call 934-8225 for additional information.
