2005.6.1 Resolution Commending The Service of Mr. James Lowery

WHEREAS, James Lowery, B.A., M. Div. has served The University of Alabama at Birmingham as Director of Management Support Services, and

WHEREAS, James Lowery has served as an ex officio member of the UAB Faculty Policies and Procedures Committee (FPPC) for many years giving logistic support and guidance to the Chair of the Committee, preparing status of policy reports’ review, serving as a major resource of background information for various subcommittees and assisting Faculty in moving forward recommendations from the FPPC, and

WHEREAS, James Lowery has served to assist the Faculty Senate providing cogent information and facilitating timely review of UAB-wide University policies through the defined policy development and review process, and
WHEREAS, James Lowery has provided prompt review and accurate documentation to the Faculty allowing timely movement of policies and procedures through the Faculty Senate, and

WHEREAS, James Lowery has responded to requests for assistance related to improving communications to UAB faculty members pertaining to UAB policies and procedures, the UAB Faculty Policies and Procedures Handbook and the You and UAB Handbook, and

WHEREAS, James Lowery is retiring in June of 2005 after many years of dedicated service to the UAB Faculty,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, The Faculty Senate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham commends and thanks James Lowery for his outstanding service to The University of Alabama at Birmingham and his assistance to the UAB Faculty Senate. The Faculty Senate commends his diligence, patience, and careful attention to details of language and emphasis on clarity of meaning, intent of words and the most probable interpretation by readers of UAB policies and procedures.

2005.6.2 Resolution Commending The Service of Dr. Theodore M. Benditt

Resolution Commending the Service of Theodore M. Benditt, JD, PhD

WHEREAS, Dr. Theodore M. Benditt, JD, PhD, Professor of Philosophy in the School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has served with distinction as the Chair of the UAB Faculty Senate for the academic year, 2004-2005; and

WHEREAS, Theodore M. Benditt , as Chair of the Faculty Senate, served as Faculty Representative to the Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama for the academic year, 2004-2005; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Theodore M. Benditt has served with distinction as a member of the Planning Committee for the recently developed UAB Quality Enhancement Plan, played an important role in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools review process and; carefully shepherded the recent revisions of the UAB Faculty Handbook keeping the needs and desires of faculty to the fore, and

WHEREAS, Dr. Theodore M. Benditt, throughout his 27 year tenure at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has exemplified dedication to the mission of The University of Alabama at Birmingham in teaching, research, publishing, and service while serving in the leadership roles as Chair of the Department of Philosophy and as Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, The Faculty Senate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham commends and thanks Dr. Theodore M. Benditt for his service, his hard work, his dedication, and his many contributions to The University of Alabama at Birmingham and to the UAB Faculty Senate.
