2006 Faculty Senate Resolutions

2006.11.1 Resolution Commending the Service of Rosalia N. Scripa, M.S., Ph.D.

WHEREAS, Rosalia N. Scripa, M.S., Ph.D., Professor of Material Science and Engineering at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has served with distinction as Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Scripa received her undergraduate education from Alfred University in 1970; a Masters degree in Ceramic Science from Penn State University in 1972; a Masters degree from the University of Florida in 1975; a Doctorate of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida in 1976; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Scripa began her career at The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1976 as an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1981, was promoted to Professor of Material Science and Engineering in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Scripa has served the university as Associate Dean of the School of Engineering; Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in the School of Engineering; Associate Provost for Undergraduate Programs, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Programs and Faculty Affairs, Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Faculty affairs; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Scripa has been nationally elected to the Executive Board of the American Association of Crystal Growth and recognized by the World Congress of Arts, Sciences, and Communications with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her research and contributions to science; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Scripa has been highly noted for her excellence in teaching having been recognized by students and peers with numerous awards; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Scripa's service has been demonstrated particularly by her outstanding work assisting the UAB Faculty Senate and its committees during a time of growth and improvement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by The Faculty Senate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham that it expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Rosalia Scripa for her service, her hard work, her dedication, and her many contributions to The University of Alabama at Birmingham and to the UAB Faculty Senate.

2006.9.1 Resolution Honoring the Accomplishments and Service of Virginia Gauld


Whereas, Dr. Virginia “Jenny” Gauld has been at UAB since 1977 and has served as the Vice President for Student Affairs since 1990, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has retired from the University as of September 1, 2006, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has assisted the growth of the University for three decades nurturing the development from a “commuter school” to a full service university with an active campus student life, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has guided the development of major contributions to the attainment of campus improvements such as construction of new residential halls, creation of the Campus Recreation Center and the Commons on the Green dining facility, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has consistently served as an advocate for students and the University, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has supported the initiation of numerous student organizations and has been a formative influence in the lives student leaders, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has consistently placed a high value on a diverse student body, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld is one of the most recognizable people on this campus, well known for her generosity of spirit and compassion, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has infused the campus with that spirit, strengthening its character and deepening its trust, and

Whereas, Dr. Gauld has consistently responded to concerns identified by the Faculty Senate and assisted with requests for assistance to the Faculty,
Be It Therefore Resolved, that the UAB Faculty Senate express our great appreciation to Dr. Virginia Gauld for her many actions of support to students, the faculty and staff and to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

2006.4.1 Resolution commending the service of Linda Reed

Whereas, Linda F. Reed, BSN, MSM, PhD, has served The Faculty Senate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham Faculty Senate as a Senator, Member of the Finance Committee, and Chair of the Finance Committee from 2002 to 2006, and an Alternate Senator
Whereas, Linda F. Reed has served and was prepared for her responsibilities at this university by her graduate work at the University of Texas at Austin, and
Whereas, the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate congratulates our School of Nursing on its good fortune in attracting and keeping Linda F. Reed.
Whereas, Linda F. Reed has performed meaningful and needed service to the Faculty Senate and the members of the UAB faculty with her efforts in the area of Fringe Benefits,
Whereas, Linda F. Reed is a valued member of the Faculty Senate
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Executive Committee of Faculty Senate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham that:
The Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate praises and thanks Linda F. Reed for her outstanding service to The University of Alabama at Birmingham in representing and forwarding its mission of faculty governance.
The Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate commends the diligence, compassion, patience, and careful judgment which are excellences of the character of Linda F. Reed with which she has served the Faculty Senate The University of Alabama at Birmingham

 

2006.6.1 Resolution Commending The Service Of Peter G. Anderson

Resolution Commending the Service of Peter G. Anderson, D.V.M., Ph.D.
WHEREAS, Peter G. Anderson, D.V.M, Ph.D., Professor of Pathology and Director of Pathology Undergraduate Education in the Department of Pathology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has served with distinction as the Chair of the UAB Faculty and its Senate for the academic year, 2005-2006; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson received his undergraduate education from the University of Washington with distinction in 1977; a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University in 1981; a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson began his career at The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1986, where he has taught residents, undergraduate and graduate students, and performed clinical laboratory services; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure, Dr. Anderson has exemplified faculty dedication to the mission of The University of Alabama at Birmingham in teaching, research and publishing, and service; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson has been highly noted for his excellence in teaching having been awarded the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching for the Joint Health Sciences in 2003; Best Teacher of the Year in 1999-2000; Outstanding Course Director in 1995-1996; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson’s service has been demonstrated particularly by his outstanding work on the UAB Faculty Senate in such capacities as Chair-Elect in 2004-2005 and Chair in 2005-2006; as Faculty Senator from 2001-2004; as a member of the Internet2 Applications Working Group 2001-present; and as Chair of the Basic Sciences Promotions Committee from 1994-1998;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by The Faculty Senate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham that it expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Peter G. Anderson for his service, his hard work, his dedication, and his many contributions to The University of Alabama at Birmingham and to the UAB Faculty Senate.
