Call to order: Chair Wyss called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m.

 

Approval of Minutes: The August 27, 2004 minutes were approved as distributed.

 

Chair Report: No report

 

Presentation of Information Items – Mr. James Lowery indicated that President Garrison signed the Nonsmoking Policy on September 14, 2004. The policy has been distributed and the “Status of Sections of the Handbook and Policies Being Reviewed” form has been updated to reflect the change. (See page 5 of the handout)

 

Conflicts of Interest Policy – Chair Wyss indicated that minor editorial changes were made to the Conflict of Interest Policy.  The FPPC members reviewed the draft policy, changed “real” to “actual” and moved it on page 1, and passed a motion to forward it to the Senate.

 

Committee Reports: Dr. Greenup met with Sub Committee C on September 9, 2004 to discuss the items reviewed at the last FPPC meeting. Dr. Greenup indicated that minor editorial changes were made to Section 3.5.  A motion to approve Section 3.5 with no changes was passed by the FPPC members.

 

The FPPC members reviewed Section 3.8, made changes in Section 3.8.3 on pages 1 and 2, approved this section as amended.

 

2 recommendations were given from Sub Committee C (see attachments) and are as follows after editing by the FPPC: (a) “That all UAB student catalogs (Undergraduate, Graduate, school) include a section on “non-academic misconduct.” (b) “That a recommendation be forwarded to the Provost requesting that he increase the awareness of, and ease of access to, the Direction Student Handbook to faculty, staff and all students.”

 

A motion to forward the 2 recommendations to the Senate was approved.  Chair Wyss will forward the 2 recommendations to the chair of the Senate.
