||Research foci in our group are to understand biological systems with multiscale modeling approaches - Linking Mechanics to Biophysics and Biochemistry in Engineering, Biology and Medicine. Specific research areas in the group include the structural basis and molecular mechanisms for cell adhesion signaling pathways, and Fas-mediated death inducing signaling complex in cancer and orthopedic research, with the goal of drug discovery for the potential therapeutic treatment for cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Self-assembly biomaterials and synthetic biomaterials on cell biomembrane structure and function, and their important applications in translational research are also group research interests. To accomplish the research objectives of our research, in addition to using computational methods, including quantum mechanics, molecular dynamics and finite element method, we also strive to develop new methods to bridge the simulations across different spatial and temporal scales.
Dr. Yuhua Song received her B.S. degree from Jilin University of Technology in Jilin, China in 1989. She went on to complete her M.S. degree at the University of Science and Technology located in Harbin, China in 1996. Dr. Song received her Ph.D. degree from Harbin Institute of Technology in Harbin, China in 1998 in Material Science and Engineering. Dr. Song joined the UAB faculty in 2006.
