How to Apply

GCL Honors admits students who have not only strong academic records, but also passion, motivation, ideas and initiative, and a desire to work towards the common good. 

1. Students should first apply and be admitted to UAB before applying to an honors program. All applications to UAB are automatically considered for academic scholarships.  However, the deadline for such automatic consideration for scholarships is December 1st of a student's senior year.   For more information and to apply to UAB online, visit www.uab.edu/apply . 

2. The Honors Academy application can then be completed at www.uab.edu/honorsacademy using the "Apply for Honors Academy" link.  The application includes:

• Basic demographic information
• A resume
• An essay (three prompts provided from which to select one)
• Two letters of recommendation

The Honors Academy application deadline is December 15.

3. All students submitting an application are invited to campus for an interview on a Saturday in January or February.  The interview process allows us to get to know students better and for students to assess their fit with our program.  Students who are unable to attend an on-campus interview (e.g., due to living out-of-state) will be offered a phone interview.

4. Decisions are made and notification letters sent around the end of February.  Students are then expected to commit to the program by May 1.
