The Kirklin
Clinic (TKC), a $130 million outpatient facility and one
of the largest ambulatory patient care centers in the
United States, opened in June, 1992. It is owned and administered
by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation,
a not-for-profit corporation which encompasses the private
practice arm of the physician faculty at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham.
The Kirklin
Clinic is a 5-story, 454,00 square foot building that
consolidates the majority of the adult outpatient medical
facilities at the UAB Medical Center and is located adjacent
to University Hospital. It is named in honor of former
Chairman of the Department of Surgery and renowned cardiac
surgeon, Dr. John W. Kirklin. Over 1400 patients are seen
each day in the clinics.
