The public phase of the largest and most comprehensive philanthropic campaign in UAB history, The Campaign for UAB: Give Something, Change Everything, has officially begun. In working toward our ambitious goal—$1 billion by 2018—the UAB community is setting a great example for our larger community with its contributions and advocacy.
As part of the faculty/staff campaign, the physicians at UAB Health Services Foundation have provided a lead gift of $2.5 million. The funds will be used toward the purchase of a cutting-edge PET/MRI. This piece of equipment will play an important role in moving therapies and improved diagnostics more rapidly from the laboratory to the patient in the areas of cancer, neuroscience, and cardiology. The investment is being leveraged by a most generous gift from Jim and Julie Stephens and others at UAB.
The goal for the faculty/staff campaign has been set at $35 million. Other gifts and commitments that have been received to support this effort include $100,000 from Eric Jack, Ph.D., dean of the Charles and Patsy Collat School of Business, and $250,000 from UAB President Ray L. Watts.
