What is Heart to Heart?
Heart to Heart International, Incorporated (HTH) is a non-profit organization
that is dedicated to helping children in the developing world who have
congenital heart defects. The
organization brings children who need surgical intervension to the United
States for treatement. Heart to Heart accomplishes this by utilizing
a network of participating physicians and hospitals who donate their care
and services.
Founded in 1989 by cardiologist Herman A. Taylor,
Jr., M.D., Heart to Heart has healed more than fifty children
from fourteen countries. In addition, Heart to Heart has facilitates
mini-fellowships for visiting physicians. Through these experiences
foreign doctors begin to acquire the skills they need to take care of critically
ill children in their own countries.
Mission & Goals
Heart to Heart International's mission is to reduce the terrible impact
of childhood cardiovascular disease on world health through programs that
save individual lives as well as promote
systemic change in developing countries.
Heart to Heart's goals are to:

Maintain a network of Cardiac Centers in the United States to provide surgical
treatment and care for children from the developing world with congenital
heart defects,

Facilitate educational opportunities in the form of mini-fellowships for
foreign physicians who accompany pediatric patients from developing countries.

Procure donated medical equipment and supplies for hospitals and clinics
in targeted developing countries.
