Historical Note:             In honor of the medical school’s 40th anniversary in Birmingham, Dean James A. Pittman, Jr., commissioned a local Birmingham artist, Max Heldman, to produce a pictorial history celebrating the anniversary.  After several years of work, The First Forty Years: University of Alabama School of Medicine was published in 1988.  This collection consists entirely of some of the original drawings Heldman created for use in this publication.

 

Scope and Content:        31 pencil drawings ranging in size from 8” x 8˝ ” to 29” x 22” and arranged by size in two oversized manuscript boxes
