There are 37 Operating Rooms located on the 5th and 7th floors of UAB's new University Hospital. They are each a spacious 625 sq ft in size and designed for today's technology as well as for future innovations. Each new operating suite has four flat-screen monitors suspended from adjustable arms to bring surgical images into view at any point around the operating table. High-resolution images offer the clearest possible view inside the body. With just the touch of a finger on the sleek screens, the surgical staff can access images from radiology or biopsy labs, and even view procedures going on in other operating rooms.
This new technology also allows physicians to share information, further advancing health care through telemedicine. All data collected during a procedure, including video recordings, radiology scans, and endoscopic images, can be routed to other UAB locations or facilities. These new technologies help UAB provide exceptional patient care today and allow for growth and new advances for the future.
