Don Appleby is a Senior Systems Engineer with Mainline Information Systems with over three decades of experience in the information technology industry.  He is retired from IBM, where he served in a variety of roles including systems engineer, marketing representative, software defect support specialist, contract services, ISO 9000 internal auditor, and quality assurance specialist.  Don has authored several papers on system design review strategies, spoken at conferences on the subject of systems assurance methodologies, and helped design a measurement and reporting process used by IBM to analyze Solution Assurance Review trends in North, Central, and South America.  He also had responsibility for storage product Solution Assurance Reviews within the U.S.

Don is a credentialed instructor in the School of Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he teaches graduate courses on information engineering and management in the Master of Engineering Program.

He earned a BSIM degree (with highest honor) from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MSEE degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  He also completed additional graduate-level coursework in quantitative methods, modeling and simulation, and artificial intelligence.

His professional training includes server, storage, database, networking, and transaction processing systems and he holds an IBM z System Technical Support Certification.
