Alabama Middleware Workshop A workshop focusing on Alabama's developing campus middleware infrastructures was held
in August 2002. Prototype applications using central directory services were demonstrated.
UAB receives E-Gov Award for Digital Signatures Project
UAB's participation in a pilot use of digital signaturesto submit grant proposals to the
NIH is featured in a video concerning the EDUCAUSE - NIH PKI Interoperability project. Use of the Higher Education Bridge Certificate Authority (HEBCA) will allow reliable, trusted communications among campuses that use differing digital certificates. When connected to the Federal Bridge Certification Authority, HEBCA will also permit efficient, secure communications between HEBCA campuses and federal agencies, as was shown in the recent demonstration.

Henry Panion III, PhD (University Professor), a pioneer in the field of music technology, organized the world's first Internet virtual music recording studio. Panion produced the CD "Courtney's Festival" from the Rialto Theater in Atlanta, working

Internet Videoconferencing
Chris Lorish PhD, (School of Medicine) aims to make 3-way videoconferencing more convenient for faculty and students.His project using H.323 videoconferencing was selected to be part of the ViDe Large Scale Video Network Prototype
(LSVNP), sponsored by Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) and Bolt Baranek & Newman (BBN). LSVNP is a national collaboration to promote the deployment of H.323 video conferencing technologies.
