How to Configure Entourage 2004 to Access UAB's Exchange Server Using the Wizard

Use these instructions to configure Entourage via the Account Setup Assistant. For instructions on manual configuration, please click here.
These instructions were compiled using Entourage 2004 (version 11.1.0). It is recommended that you use the latest version of Entourage, which, as of 06/04/07, is version 11.3.3.

Note: You must have a UAB BlazerID in order to access UAB's Exchange Server. To request a BlazerID, click here.

  1. Open Entourage 2004.

    Go to your  Applications Folder, find the Microsoft Office folder, and double-click on Entourage

  2. Go to the Tools menu and select Accounts.

    The Accounts option is at the bottom of the Tools menu

  3. From the New menu, select Exchange.

    The Exchange option is at the bottom of the New menu

  4. On the first window of the Account Setup Assistant (titled "Set Up a Mail Account"), enter the following values:

      In this field... Enter this value
    E-mail address Your BlazerID + "@uab.edu"
    User ID Your BlazerID
    My Account is on an Exchange Server Checked
    Domain uab
    Password Your strong password

    Click on the right arrow to continue to Account Setup Assistant window 2 (titled "Configuring Account").

    The right arrow button is on the bottom right of the window.

  5. Entourage will attempt to automatically connect to the Exchange server and verify your settings.

    Window 2 will display a progress bar.

    ** The Wizard will easily pick up the proper settings if your TCP/IP DNS settings are set to the campus Active Directory DNS servers. If not, just click OK on the popup and you will have a chance to enter the correct settings in Window 4 of the Wizard (see below).

    If there was an error, please contact the AskIT Help Desk.

    If the connection was successful, the Account Setup Assistant will bring you to Window 3 (titled "Automatic Configuration Succeeded"). Click on the right arrow to continue.

  6. Window 4 (titled "Verify and Complete Settings"), will present you with your account settings as detected by Entourage. Review the entries and make any corrections:

      In this field... Enter this value
    Your name Your name as you want it to appear in email
    E-mail address Your BlazerID + "@uab.edu"
    Account ID Your BlazerID
    Password Your strong password
    Save password in Mac OS X Keychain Checked
    Domain uab
    Exchange server mail.ad.uab.edu
    LDAP Server ldap.ad.uab.edu
    Use SSL for these servers Unchecked

    Click on the right arrow to continue.

  7. Window 5 of the Account Setup Assistant (titled "Optional Verify Settings"), is an optional window. If you click the Verify My Settings button, Entourage will attempt to connect to the Exchange and LDAP servers specified in previous window and verify connectivity. You do not have to click this button, but doing so will help you find problems while you are still in the Assistant.

    Click on the right arrow button to continue to Window 6.

  8. In Window 6 of the Account Setup Assistant (titled "Setup Complete"), you give a name to your account setup. This is the name that will be displayed in the Accounts List in Entourage

    Enter a name in the Account name field. Click on the Finish button to save the settings and exit the Assistant.

    You may get a popup window stating that Entourage is going to synchronize with the Exchange server. Click the OK button to continue.

  9. The Assistant will now close, and you will see your new account in the Accounts window. If this window is not present, go to the Tools menu and select Accounts.

    Click to select your newly created account and click on the Edit button.

    The Edit button is on the top next to the New button.

  10. Click on the Directory tab and change the following fields if necessary:

      In this field... Enter this value
    LDAP Server ldap.ad.uab.edu
    Search base dc=ad,dc=uab,dc=edu


    The Edit button is on the top next to the New button.

    Click on the button labeled Click here for advanced options. Make sure the check boxes are set as follows:

      For this field... Set the checkbox to...
    This server requires me to log on Unchecked
    This LDAP server requires a secure connection (SSL) Unchecked
    Override default LDAP port Unchecked


    The Edit button is on the top next to the New button.

  11. Click on the Advanced tab and change the following fields if necessary:

      In this field... Enter this value
    Public folders server mail.ad.uab.edu/public/
    DAV service requires secure connection (SSL) Checked
    Override default DAV port Unchecked


    The Edit button is on the top next to the New button.

    Click OK. You're done!
