About Instructional Technology

Instructional Technology (ITIT) is a unit of UAB Information Technology.  Our purpose is to provide a technology-supported education system and the services that contribute to the strategic mission of the University, to the quality of education, and to the learning outcomes of UAB staff and students. The unit hosts and supports several enterprise wide applications for use by faculty, staff, students and in some cases the community.  We provide the technology, services, education and assistance required to use them.

We offer the following technology and services to faculty who are teaching academic courses at UAB at no cost:

  • An e-learning system which includes turnitin and respondus
  • Faculty and staff education in using instructional technology and in course design and development
  • Course design consultation
  • Streaming Media services
  • BlazerNet Channel on the Faculty Resources Tab
  • A website with resources and guidelines for using instructional technology
  • For fee,  we offer assistance with course design and development,  learning objective development (video and audio production, tutorials, viewlets, technology-based activities)
  • Faculty and staff communities of interest/expertise

We offer the following technology and services for  fee to the UAB faculty and staff seeking to offer training and/or community outreach courses:

  • Development and design advice and technical review of course quality
  • Training for course designers and instructors
  • Technical support for designers, instructors, and students
  • Development and design advice and technical review of course quality
  • Implementation of the course from student enrollment to reporting and record keeping
  • Help desk support for instructors, designers, and students through AskIT and the Training Institute
  • Archiving and backup of completed courses

Our offices are located on the ground floor of the Lister Hill Library, next door to the Electronic Classroom.
