Online Learning at UAB

Online learning at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is supported by the Department of Information Technology through Instructional Technology. Currently ITIT is supporting Blackboard Vista as the University's course management system. There are two separate institutes (Academic and Training) that have been established to better serve the different needs of the UAB community. All academic for credit courses are located in the Academic Institute, while Faculty and Staff training and development courses are in the Training Institute. In addition, ITIT also supports six other products that can be used along with Blackboard Vista; Respondus, Respondus Lockdown Browser, Turnitin, Wimba Voice, Wimba Live Classroom and eInstruction. Respondus is a tool for creating and managing exams, Respondus Lockdown Browser is a secure browser for taking assessments, Turnitin is recognized worldwide as the standard in online plagiarism prevention and Wimba Voice allows you to easily embed vocal interactions into you Vista course. Wimba Live Classroom is a fully-featured, live, virtual classroom solution that includes audio, video, application sharing and content display. eInstruction provides clickers that are well suited for class discussion and have been shown to promote students’ interaction and engagement and will intergrat into our Blackboard Vista environment.
