How do I set up dialup to Bellsouth with Windows XP?

  1. On the desktop, right click on My Network Places
  2. Click on properties
  3. Double click on Make New Connection
  4. Click Next
  5. Select Dial-up to the Internet
  6. Click Next
  7. Select I want to set up my internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)
  8. Click Next
  9. Select I connect through a phone line and a modem
  10. Click Next
  11. Type the local access number 871-5621 in the Telephone Number field
    1. 10-digit dialing is setup by putting the area code in front of the phone number in the phone number box on the right side (ex. 205-871-5621)
    2. Voice mail is disabled by putting 3 or 4 commas before the phone number (ex. ,,,,871-5621)
    3. Call waiting is disabled by putting *70, before the phone number (ex. *70,871-5621)
    4. If the customer has all of the above extra features it would look like this when you disabled them (ex. ,,,,*70,205-871-5621)
    5. If this is correct, make sure Use Area Code and Dialing Rules is not checked.
  12. Click Advanced
  13. Click the Addresses tab at the top
  14. IP address should be selected to Internet service provider automatically provides one
  15. DNS server address should be selected to Always use the following
  16. Type the primary and secondary DNS server
    Primary: 207.203.32.20
    Secondary: 205.152.0.5
  17. Click OK
  18. Click Next
  19. Type the customer's login ID username@bellsouth.net into the Username field
  20. Click Next
  21. Under connection name, type BellSouth.net
  22. Click Next
  23. It will ask, "Do you want to set up an internet mail account?" Select yes
  24. Click Next
  25. Type the customer's name in the Display name field
  26. Click Next
  27. Type the customer's full e-mail address username@bellsouth.net in the E-mail address field
  28. Click Next
  29. My Incoming mail server should be selected to POP3
  30. Click Next
  31. Type the customer's pop (incoming mail) server in the incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server field. mail.bhm.bellsouth.net
  32. Type the customer's smtp (outgoing mail) server in the outgoing mail (SMTP) server field. mail.bhm.bellsouth.net
  33. Click Next
  34. Type the customer's username in the Account name field
  35. Click Next
  36. Click Finish
