Replacement Project Website

This website provides information to the UAB community about the implementation of SCT Banner, the new student information system replacing STARS. SCT Banner, a web-based software application, will fully integrate UAB's operations in the areas of recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and development. Banner will increase the ability of UAB's student system to interface together for the purpose of sharing information, streamlining workflow, and increasing performance. With the implementation of Banner, the university will provide more effective and efficient services for the growing needs of students, faculty, and staff.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

UAB selected Banner following a nine-month evaluation of Oracle and SCT systems. This evaluation of systems was requested by the Board of Trustees and conducted in conjunction with the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. As a result of the evaluation, SCT Banner was selected as the common student system for all three campuses.

MISSION AND GOAL

The goal of this project is to successfully implement the Banner Student, Financial Aid, and Advancement Systems within budget and on time. To achieve this goal will require the cooperation of all UAB personnel. All end-user personnel will be thoroughly trained before the Go-Live dates.

PROJECT ORGANIZATION

The Co-Executive Sponsors of the project are Eli Capilouto, Provost, and Sheila Sanders, Vice President of Information Technology.

Management of the project will be two-fold. UAB has designated a Functional Project Manager and Co-Technical Leads to ensure the success of the project. The manager and leads are:

  1. Doug Rigney, UAB Functional Project Manager
  2. Phillip Borden and Joan Stoney, UAB Technical Co-Leads

In addition, Process Teams have been appointed to ensure the successful implementation of the Banner System. Members of these teams serve as liaisons to the departments impacted by the project. Process Team members work with the SCT consultants to define business requirements and provide information to accommodate UAB's needs.
