University Macintosh User's Group

The Office of the Vice President for Information Technology has created an Apple/Macintosh user's group called University Macintosh Users Group, or UMUG for short. All UAB faculty, staff, and students and hospital folks (i.e. uab.edu e-mail address) are welcome to join the LISTSERV and/or attend the brown-bag "Lunch and Learn" meetings.

To join the UMUG LISTSERV:

  • Send an e-mail to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UAB.EDU
  • Leave the Subject line blank
  • In the body of the message type: subscribe umug <your first name> <your last name> on a single line with a single space between each word.
You should immediately receive a reply from the LISTSERV instructing you to reply with the word "OK" (no quotation marks) in the body of the message. If all goes well, you will receive confirmation that you have been subscribed to the list along with some general instruction on participation.

To leave the UMUG LISTSERV:

Once we have an understanding of how many people are interested in attending the brown-bag lunches and topics folks are interested in discussing, we will begin organizing the meetings. Anyone wishing to suggest a topic or is willing to give a presentation should e-mail Sterling Griffin. Topics up for discussion include but are not limited to:
  • Migration paths to Mac OS X and/or Mac OS X Server
  • OS X and UNIX
  • Apple Networking (AppleTalk, NetInfo, Active Directory, LDAP, Mac OS X Server and AppleShare IP)
  • All things Apple
