Dan Shan

Research Associate. University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dan Shan received her Bachelor in Medicine degree from School of Medicine, Wuhan University, China in 1991. She has worked as an OB-GYN doctor in the 2nd Hospital of WISCO in Wuhan, China for 6 years. In 1997, she went to Japan and received her very first scientific research training in human endometrial cancer research at Kyushu University, Japan. During her stay in Japan, she not only published a scientific paper and multiple conference abstracts but also passed the Level 1 (the highest level) of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, an official test for foreigners who use Japanese as a second language. In 2002, she started her first job at UAB, working as a Research Assistant in Dr. Tim Nagy’s lab in the Department of Nutrition Sciences. In 2005, she transferred to UAB Department of Medicine working as a Research Associate. When she was in Medicine, she worked with Dr. John Chatham to study cardiomyocyte function and metabilosim in diabetes and ischemic disease. Since she came to UAB, she has published 2 peer-reviewed papers and 3 abstracts. Dan was recently joined to Dr. Robert McCullumsmith’s lab in the Department of Psychiatry.
