Grant Nelson

Grant Nelson graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor degree in microbiology in 2007. His undergraduate research included studying the structure and function of heme-dependent enzymes as well as quorum sensing in Legionella species. Upon graduating from Auburn, Grant worked at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center for the department of infection control. Soon after, he completed a Masters of Public Health in epidemiology. His epidemiologic research focused on genetic epidemiology with a thesis titled Associations of HLA-A1-B8-DR3 and Sjogren’s  Syndrome With Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: A Meta-Analysis. He interned at the UAB Division of Preventive Medicine during this time and studied stroke epidemiology. Grant is pursuing a career as a physician.

Within the Meador-Woodruff lab Grant works on the “Neuron Subtype and Circuit Specific Patterns of Gene Expression in Schizophrenia” study and performs laser-capture microdissection and real-time qPCR.
