Kavita Nadendla Student. University of Alabama at Birmingham. I am a sophomore student in the University Honors Program and Early Medical School Acceptance Program, pursuing a Biology and Neuroscience double major. I am from Huntingtown, Maryland and graduated from Huntingtown High School. I have had previous research experience at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Springs, MD under Dr. Nageswararao Chilukuri in the Division of Biochemistry. My work involved isolating and characterizing the gene for human KIAA1363, an enzyme that has potential catalytic properties against organophosphorus nerve agents that threaten our soldiers during chemical warfare. I began my research in the lab or Dr. James-Meador Woodruff in Spring 2009. My lab supervisor is Dr. Monsheel Sodhi. I am currently working on a project that compares the level of ADAR expression in the brains of patients with a variety of psychiatric illnesses. The project involves amplifying the gene for ADAR and subcloning the gene into a plasmid vector that can be transformed into bacterial cells in order to ultimately make a riboprobe for ADAR. |
