Thalamic expression of NMDAR subunits and associated PSD protein transcripts following exposure to antipsychotic drugs.

A main criticism of post-mortem work in schizophrenia is that the results of these studies may not be due to the illness itself, but rather due to chronic neuroleptic treatment. Therefore, I would like to conduct a second pharmacological study where rats will be chronically treated with typical (haloperidol) and atypical (clozapine) antipsychotic medications. This study will determine whether chronic treatment with these agents affects the expression of NMDARs and the PSD-95 family of molecules in the thalamus, and will, again, assist in data from my post-mortem studies.
