“I was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital. The doctors used the defibrillator four times. They had to clamp my kidneys off to stop the blood. That messed my kidneys up.
“I ended have having to be on dialysis three to five days a week. It’s debilitating. I had to do that for a little over a year.
“I was turned down for a kidney transplant in Georgia, so we got on the list at UAB. My daughter wanted to give me her kidney. She was real healthy, but the doctors called me and said they had a better match for me.
“I got excellent care while I was at UAB. Dr. [Carlton] Young did my surgery. He’s a great guy with a great personality and very professional. I was a little nervous the day of surgery, but I was more grateful that I was getting a kidney.
“I’m so much happier now than I used to be. My quality of life is so much better. I’m ready to get back on the golf course.”
