Before the UAB women’s volleyball match Friday night, the UAB Athletic Association sponsored a fall festival in hopes to “Scare Away Cancer.”
Along with the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Organization, the Blazer Women’s Athletic Society and Southside Baptist Church, the Athletic Association set up fall-themed, family oriented activities for children and families to participate.
From face-painting to carnival games to arts and crafts and candy giveaways, the festival atmosphere boosted the spirits of the fans and volunteers.
“The goal for the evening was to reach out to the community and to the kids and to bring in support for UAB and to raise awareness of Breast Cancer, said Kelsey Stamps, intern for the UAB Athletic Association.
“Anytime we can reach out like this and make a difference is a great thing.”
The UAB Athletic Association and UAB Hospital also invited the Susan G. Komen Fund to continue to raise awareness on UAB’s campus and at athletic events; not just for the hospital, which has received sum $7 million for Breast Cancer research to date.
This was not the last sporting event that Susan G. will promote, as the basketball team will also host a promotional game at some point this upcoming season.
