Location of Lister Hill Library
The Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences is located on Birmingham's historic Southside on the UAB campus at 1700 University Blvd. (University Blvd. is 8th Avenue South as it passes through the UAB campus area.) Please refer to map below. - From SOUTH: Take I-65 North to 8th Ave South exit (Exit # 259). The Library is on the left side of the road between the 4th and 5th lights.
- From NORTH: Take I-65 South to the 4th Ave South exit (Exit # 259-B). Turn right on 14th Street. Turn left on University Blvd. (8th Avenue.) at UAB's Hill University Center. The Library is on the left side of the road before the next major traffic light (18th Street).
- From EAST and WEST: Use routes that will get you to I-65. UAB is located just SOUTH of the I-65 & I-20/59 interchange. Follow one of the routes above.
- From EAST (alternate route): Take I-20/59 West/South to the US 280 Exit (#126-A). Exit RIGHT onto 8th Avenue South (University Blvd.). The Library is on the right side of the road just past the 18th Street intersection (about 7-8 lights down). The other landmarks at the 18th Street intersection are the VA Hospital and the Eye Foundation Hospital. Most of the parking will be before you pass the library however.

Parking Near Lister Hill Library
As with any urban university, parking spaces are at a premium. Depending on the time of your arrival, you should expect to walk 2 or 3 blocks from your parking space to the Library.
- There are 5 short-term metered spaces in front of the library on University Blvd.
- 1-30 minutes costs 30¢
- 30 minute maximum from 8am - 6pm
- UAB Public Parking Deck #3 on the corner of University Blvd. (8th Avenue) and 19th Street. Map
- 1-30 minutes costs $1.00
- Each additional half hour is 50¢
- Maximum cost per day is $5.00
- After 9:30pm you can exit the deck with 4 quarters
- There is some metered street parking along 7th Avenue South. These spaces are hard to get during the weekdays, but may be available on nights and weekends. Map
- There is one metered spot designated for individuals with disabilities.
- Most UAB designated lots are open to anyone after 5:00 pm on weekdays and/or on weekends. For instance, the medical student parking lot (Lot#5A) is one of the larger, closer UAB lots. It is located between Volker Hall and the Hill University Center and is usually open on weekends. The entrance gate is just off University Blvd east of the Hill University Center.
- For those who don't mind driving around and perhaps walking a little farther, you can usually find free street parking south of University Blvd (8th Ave S) on one of the streets between and including 17th St S and 15th St S (especially between 10th Ave S and 12th Ave S).
- The Eye Foundation Hospital Parking Deck is one of the closest decks to Lister Hill Library. It is located on the corner of University Blvd. (8th Avenue) and 18th Street, and can be accessed from University Blvd. The Eye Foundation charges $15.00 for any non-validated parking. Lister Hill Library cannot validate parking in the Eye Foundation parking deck.
- The Children's Hospital Parking Deck is also close to Lister Hill Library. It is located next to Volker Hall and can be accessed from University Blvd. or 7th Ave. South. Children's Hospital charges $15.00 for any non-Children's Hospital parking. Lister Hill Library cannot validate parking in the Children's Hospital parking deck.

Lister Hill Library can be entered from:
1a. Street level (University Blvd.): Use either the outside stairs, lobby stairs, or lobby elevators to go up to the plaza level (1st floor). For both campus planning and security purposes, the ONLY regular public entrance/exit to the library is on the plaza level. You can come into the lobby on street (ground) level and take a lobby elevator or the lobby stairs to the 1st floor. There are elevators and stairs inside the library that will allow you access to the other floors.
1b. Plaza level above the street (Note the blue star on the map): Enter the library lobby directly from the plaza level. This plaza runs between the School of Optometry to Volker Hall on the north side of University Blvd. The plaza continues via a skywalk over University Blvd., and runs between the School of Nursing, SHRP, and the Webb Buildings on the south side of University Blvd. Access to the plaza level may be gained by one of the following routes (see the text and map below):
2. Outside stairway on the east side of Optometry building (toward the Eye Foundation Hospital).
3. Skywalk access from the south side of University Blvd. (Webb and Nursing). At street level, an outside stairway is next to the entrance to the Nursing building.
4. Outside stairway on the 7th Ave. (north) side of Volker Hall to the right of the loading dock area.

Bookdrop Locations
Lister Hill Library has 3 bookdrops for your convenience.
Two bookdrops are located on each side of the street level entrance, back near the entrances to Volker Hall and the School of Optometry.
An additional bookdrop is located by the curb behind the library on 7th Ave. near the loading dock.
