THE MOVE!! July-August 1996

(Excerpts from the Lister Hill Library Photo Album)

Below are some small (a little larger than thumbnail) photos of some interesting sites during this construction project. Click on the smaller image if you wish to take the time to see a larger, more detailed view.

The hole cut between the old and new. Notice that directional signs were makeshift.
The temporary staff area before the move.

After unpacking.
The temporary Microcomputer Lab sans computers.
The temporary Microcomputer Lab has computers now.
We were getting reference queries even before the building opened. Our first new building patron wandered into the new building while the library staff were looking at some furniture and network collections on July 11, 1996 at approximately 4:30pm. Her question was "Where do I get on the Internet?"
Empty shelves labelled and ready for books. The small head in the center is Jack Smith, the Associate Director for Access Services who has been the principal library liaison with the construction crew and with the movers throughout this project.
One range was removed in preparation for the temporary doorway. Huge booktrucks were used to move the collection.
A few of our terminals did not go with us. We had to "retire" this stand-alone 386 OCLC terminal.
Ribbon cutting ceremony was held
1:00pm Wednesday, July 17, 1996.
Our Associate Provost for Academic Programs Administration, Dr. Terry Hickey getting some practice with the scissors with the assistance of Lister Hill Library Director, T. Scott Plutchak.
