1945  .  Medical School moves from Tuscaloosa and opens in Birmingham
March 1945  .  Mary Ament became librarian of the newly established Medical College of Alabama Library.  She resigned three months later.*
Sept. 1945  .  Mildred R. Crowe (Langner) became second librarian of the Medical College Library.*
Oct. 1945  .  Medical College Library established in Hillman Hospital, 6th floor.
1951  .  Various Medical Center libraries, including the Medical and Dental Libraries were consolidated into one Medical Center Library under the direction of Chief Librarian Mildred R. Crowe.*
Sept. 13, 1952  .  Medical Center Library reopened in its new space in the South Wing of the first and second floors of the New Hillman building.*
1952  . Dr. Lawrence Reynolds agreed to donate his personal library and collection of rare medical texts and manuscripts to the Medical Center.*
Summer 1955  .  Sarah Cole Brown became third librarian of the Medical College Library.
Feb. 2, 1958  .  Reynolds Historical Library dedication
Jan. 28, 1966  .  First NLM contract for a MEDLARS station in the Library
December 1966: Senator Lister Hill announced original grant funding for the Alabama Regional Medical Program.
July 30, 1968  .  Groundbreaking for the original Lister Hill Library building along with the School of Nursing building and the Basic Health Sciences building (Volker Hall)*
June 16, 1969  .  Governor Brewer announces creation of The University of Alabama System consisting of autonomous campuses at Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Huntsville.
Oct. 19, 1971  .  'New' Medical Center Library building dedicated as "The Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences" after Alabama's Senator Lister Hill.
Sarah Cole Brown, who had served as chief librarian since 1955, became first director of the new Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences.*
1972  .  Extension Library of Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences opened in the former Hillman Hospital building*
1973-74  .  Ms. Sarah Cole Brown served as President of the Medical Library Association
Oct. 24, 1975  .  Bicentennial rededication of RHL and dedication of AMHS in "new" quarters in LHL
1975-77  .  NLM grant for automation of serials functions using the UCLA serials program
1977-78  .  Ms. Hilda Harris named as Acting Director upon the retirement of Ms. Sarah Cole Brown
July 1978  .  Mr. Richard B. Fredericksen named as Director
Sept. 1980  .  LHL became member of OCLC 
April 1987  .  First online catalog implemented (LISTER). End-user mini-MEDLINE searching
1987  .  DOCLINE, NLM's automated system for Interlibrary Loan requests and referrals.
1987  .  Stand alone CD-ROM databases were introduced in LHL for bibliographic searching
Fall 1987  .  Ms. Lynn Fortney named as Acting Director
Aug.1, 1988  .  Ms. Virginia Algermissen named as Director
April 1, 1989  .  LINK access to the FULL MEDLINE database using BRS Colleague search software.
Fall 1990  .  Dynix online public access catalog system replaces LISTER
1990-1991  .  UAB fiber optic network, MICOM dataswitch, & Codex multiplexors installed
1991-1992  .  Architects contracted, POR composed
July 1992  .  Ms. Nancy W. Clemmons named as Acting Director
Feb. 1993  .  Planning retreat for new library
April 1, 1993  .  LinkPLUS implemented including remote access to multiple databases
Spring 1994   .  Horizon client/server upgrade from Dynix catalog system
Sep 14, 1994  .  Groundbreaking on the expansion/renovation project
Oct. 27, 1995  .  Mr. T. Scott Plutchak named as Director
Feb 1996  .  UAB Web page mounted on new campus web server with assistance from LHL staff
July 1996  .  New construction finished. Library moves into new portion. Renovation started. 
Feb 1997  .  Renovation finished. Library begins moving into full structure.
May 2, 1997  .  New Lister Hill Library building dedicated.
July 1, 1998  .  UAB Historical Collections became part of the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences. Library Director T. Scott Plutchak was named interim executive director.
Nov. 1, 1999  .  LHL Virtual Desktop launched.  Remote web access to both web and CD-ROM resources with detailed statistical recording.
