Electronic ClassroomThe LHL Electronic Classroom, LHL G-40, is a fully equipped electronic classroom which provides the opportunity for hands-on instruction for up to 30 students. Priority in scheduling this room is given to library events, but other UAB faculty/staff can schedule this room at no charge for one-time or short term events by web form, calling 934-2230, or sending an email to Pat Higginbottom, Associate Director of Public Services . The LHL Electronic Classroom is equipped with 31 total Windows-based personal computers (students plus instructor). The computers are connected to the Internet with a 10 MB/sec fiberoptic network so that the speed of the connection is several times faster than a 56K modem. UAB is connected to the Abilene high performance backbone, and all buildings at UAB have gigabit Ethernet connection to the campus backbone routers. The computers are Windows XP. Internet Explorer, Netscape, MS Office 2000, Endnote, and Reference Manager are all standard on the computers. Loading of any other software must be preapproved and in accordance the library's and UAB's computer software policies with a minimum of two weeks advance notice. The instructor's station also has access to a microphone, Elmo projector, and S-video cassette player. Access to a Zip drive and/or laser pointer needs to be arranged ahead of time.
