IT DAYS 2000 A GREAT SUCCESS

Information and Technology Days 2000, sponsored by the Office of Academic Programs & Information Technology, was a great success again this year.  Held on April 18 and 19 in the Great Hall of the Hill University Center, the event drew more than 25 vendors and a record number of participants from UAB and the surrounding area.  Highlights of the event included:

*The Keynote address by UAB Vice President for Information and Technology, Clair Goldsmith, Ph.D., who spoke on the IT Plans for UAB

*Other seminars on Intellectual Property, HIPAA, UAB's Data Warehouse, and videoconferencing

*Participation of corporate sponsors: Dell, Executive Software International, Network Technology Resources, Technology America, and Ted Dasher & Associates

*The giveaway of dozens of door prizes including a PalmPilot, printer and scanner, gift  certificates for local restaurants and many tee-shirts and caps

The event is planned by Lister Hill Library Systems Administrator, Tim Brown, with a great deal of help from co-sponsors LHL and UAB Communications.   According to T. Scott Plutchak, library director,  "IT Day has grown significantly over the last several years.  Tim has done a spectacular job of taking it from an idea for a technology showcase to a two-day educational event that I'm sure will continue to expand in years to come.  He has been very passionate and dedicated about making it the best event possible and that's why it has been successful."
Information about next year's event will be included in this newsletter and on the library's home page at http://www.uab.edu/lister.
