 Prevention is Not for Health Alone!

Lister Hill Library will be sponsoring Preservation Month this May to raise
awareness of preservation issues within the library.  To get things started,
here are some important ways you can help keep the library's resources in
usable condition.

Handle Books with Clean Hands
Don't Write In or On Books
Don't Eat or Drink near Books
Keep Books Dry & Away from Pets
Immediately Report Leaks, Theft,
     Vandalism, & Damaged Materials
Don't Touch the Operating Surfaces
    of CDs, Diskettes or Videotapes
Don't Attempt to Repair Material
    Yourself
Don't Carry Too Many Books at
     Once
Grasp Books by the Center of the
     Spine - Never Hook your Finger over
     the Top of the Spine and Pull
Don't leave Materials in Books, Turn
     Down Pages to Mark your Place or
     "Crack" Books
Never Force a Book Open or let the
     Lid Slam Down when Photocopying
Never use Tape or Post-it Notes on
     Books

Look for preservation-related activities at LHL throughout May.
