LHL DIRECTOR T. SCOTT PLUTCHAK HONORED AS ACADEMIC MEDICAL LIBRARIAN OF THE YEAR
Scott Plutchak, Director of Lister Hill Library, has been awarded the
Estelle Brodman Academic Medical Librarian of the Year honor by the Medical
Library Association (MLA). This award is in recognition of "significant
achievement, the potential for leadership, and continuing excellence" at
mid-career in an academic health sciences librarian. Plutchak, a
Distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals,
has served on two MLA National Program Committees, was chair of the review
committee for the National Library of Medicine Internet Connection Grants
for four years, is the current editor of the Bulletin of the Medical Library
Association (BMLA) and is past chair of the Medical School Library Section.
As chair of the Electronic Access Committee for the Network of Alabama
Academic Libraries (NAAL), he was instrumental in helping to establish
the Alabama Virtual Library, a core of information resources and databases
available to every student and citizen in the state. He was also
recently named Academic Librarian of the Year by the MLA Southern Chapter
(2000).
The Estelle Brodman Award, established in
1986, recognizes Dr. Brodman's exemplary career as an educator, administrator,
technological innovator, and seminal thinker, as well as her influence
on countless medical librarians who have themselves gone on to become leaders
in the profession.
