INFORMATION & TECHNOLOGY DAYS

On May 16 and 17, Lister Hill Library,  UAB Communications, and the Office of the Vice-President for Information Technology sponsored UAB's 6th annual Information and Technology Days.  IT Days is an event consisting of a vendor fair and lectures on technology issues.

Vendors ranged from worldwide companies such as Sun and Dell to campus departments like UAB Communications and UAB Media Services all with lots of cool new stuff on display.  Many door prizes such as a fax machine/printer combo and gift certificates to local restaurants were awarded to some of the around 500 attendees.  In addition to the big stuff, lots of baseball caps, t-shirts and coffee mugs were distributed to lucky visitors.

Lecture topics covered personal digital assistants and wireless technologies as examples.  Dr. Carl Berger of the University of Michigan delivered the keynote address on the topic of predicting the future of technology in universities.   His entertaining and enlightening talk focused on what emerging technologies we might have predicted in years past and what trends now bear close watching.  For more information about the event and to see some photos, see http://www.uab.edu/itday.
