Electronic Classroom

Lister Hill Library has a brand new state-of-the-art electronic classroom! One of the major improvements included in the recent building project, the facility has an instructor station and 25-30 Pentium multimedia workstations with Windows 95, Web access, and many of the reference databases (such as Ovid Medline) available in the library. The instructor station is equipped with an overhead LCD projector and digital projector. The classroom also has a dry-wipe marker board. A laser pointer and wireless microphone can also be made available. Other packages such as MS Word will be available later. While policies for use of the classroom are still being finalized, says Martha Verchot, LHL EducationCoordinator, the classroom is ready for use. Library activities will naturally take precedence, but the facility will be available for other UAB units in support of their computer-related educational activities. Call the library staff for more information on scheduling classes. Hands-on Library educational activities planned include Ovid Medline, Current Contents and CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) database searching, and classes on using the Community of Science funding and expertise databases as well as introductory and intermediate Internet and World Wide Web classes. Please call 934-2230 for more information.
