Medical Informatics Lecture Series Kicks Off

Daniel R. Masys, Director of Biomedical Informatics and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, kicked off the UAB Update in Medical Informatics Lecture Series April 23rd. In his presentation, "Using the Internet for Clinical Data: Is it Safe: Is it Effective?" Dr. Masys reviewed recent trends in use of the Internet for healthcare and discussed the features needed for secure communication of patient-specific data. He also described the Patient Centered Access to Secure Systems Online (PCAS-SO) project, developed by the University of California, San Diego, and Science Applications International Inc., which is designed to provide safe Internet-based access to clinical information for providers and their patrons.
