New Tricks for an Old Dog: LHL Provides a New Access Option

Lister Hill Library is providing new access to existing resources.  For several years, we have had campus subscriptions to databases such as Computer Select, Physicians' Desk Reference, Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy, etc.  To use these, you had to login to our NetWare server, which could be quite a hassle.  This past fall, we installed a WinFrame server from Citrix systems, Inc.  This new system allows us to offer access to these databases via a web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape.  A "plugin" must be loaded with your browser before you use it for the fist time.  After that, there is never any software to load!  All you need is a web browser.  Internet Explorer (4.0 or better) is recommended.

The system works great over modem lines and the Internet.  You will need to use the same login ID and password that you use for accessing Ovid.  If your phone line disconnects in the middle of a search, dial back in and reconnect.  Your search should pick back up from where you left off!

To install the plugin, go to http://www.uab.edu/lister/citrix.html and follow the instructions.  Our database listings are available at http://www.uab.edu/lister/databases.htm .  Take a look at Computer Select, Atlas of Human Anatomy, and other "WinFrame Enabled Applications" and let us know what you think!  Send any questions or comments to LHL Computer Services at Ask a Librarian. For questions on searching and available resources, contact the LHL Information Desk at 4-0422 or Online.
