Community of Science

Have a Good Idea?
Need Funding or Collaborators?
Try the Community of Science  (www.cos.com)

The Community of Science (COS) is an international collaborative network of scientists, scholars, and their institutions which provides web-based tools that promote the visibility and funding of scientific and scholarly research. UAB pays for an institutional COS membership to provide access to a number of valuable services.
COS Funding Opportunities (http://fundingopps.cos.com) continues to grow and now includes more than 15,000 awards from around the world. This database is the largest source of funding information available on the Web. Each week COS publishes Funding News which can be delivered free by e-mail.
Find a Colleague, Collaborator, or Expert with COS Expertise -- http://expertise.cos.com/ includes profiles of over 200,000 researchers and scholars from leading research universities, government agencies, and other R&D organizations around the world. There are now more than 800 UAB profiles in the database.  Some are skeletal profiles imported from grant proposals and other sources.  Your record may be in there and need updating.

Special tools to help you:
UAB faculty members
Quick Forms save time in the preparation of CV's for grant proposals.
Medline Citation Importer automatically imports citations into your profile.
     Remote searching is available.
Research administrators can use Faculty Match to identify funding sources for departmental researchers.
Graduate students can locate funding sources and fellowships.
All users can access Funded Research http://fundedresearch.cos.com/  which contains information on awarded research grants from the following agencies:
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Have questions?  Need more training?  Forget your username/password?
I am happy to arrange individual appointments to discuss your expertise profile or searches for funding.  We can also schedule customized departmental workshops in the library or in your area.

That's enough for one update, but stay tuned for more new features!
