Bookdrop LocationsThere are 2 bookdrop locations around the library:
- One bookdrop is located on the side of the library's entrance near the entrance to Volker Hall.
- An additional bookdrop is located by the curb behind the library on 7th Ave. near the loading dock.
- Books circulate for 4 weeks with two renewals possible.
- Print journals are in closed stacks and do not circulate. Articles from these journals must be requested via ILLiad.
- Remote access to electronic resources is limited by contract to current UAB faculty, staff, and students.
Community ServicesCommunity Services at Lister Hill Library includes a range of consumer health information activities including but not limited to Health InfoNet of Alabama, a free health information service of the state medical and public libraries. LHL Librarians also provide significant coverage and services to the Patient Resource Library within the Kirklin Clinic.

DatabasesAn alphabetical listing of LHL's online databases and resources is available through the Databases link on the home page. In addition to the online catalog, the library provides access to a number of major health-oriented databases.
License agreements restrict remote electronic access to most of the library's purchased resources to current UAB faculty, staff, and students; however, a number of quality free health information resources may also help.
Document Delivery/ Interlibrary LoanUse the ILLiad to:
- Request copies of materials owned by Lister Hill Library.
- Request materials not owned by Lister Hill Library.
Interlibrary Loan is used to get articles or books for you that we don't have in our collection. Articles are sent to you electronically, and books are held for you to pick up.
Document Delivery is a service used to send you electronic copies of articles from our print collection. ILLiad is the system used for interlibrary loan and document delivery requests.
Exam ProctoringWhile we understand the needs surrounding exam proctoring, we are unable to proctor exams at Lister Hill Library due to space and staffing limitations.
HoldsHolds can be placed after signing in to your Catalog account.
Kirklin Clinic Patient Resource LibraryOn November 1, 2006, The Kirklin Clinic Patient Resource Library opened to help answer your specific medical questions. The library is staffed by a medical librarian at all times who is ready to assist in computer searches or guide you in book selections.
Literature SearchesExpert searches conducted by librarians in various databases including ones that are not generally available for campuswide access. More information.
NIH Public Access Policy SupportNeed Help? LHL provides assistance in finding and obtaining PMCIDs, submitting manuscripts, and following the approval process.
Photocopying and PrintingSee some FAQs about our photocopiers and printers.
Projectors & EquipmentThe following AV equipment is available to all UAB faculty, staff, and students for a seven day loan period: video projectors and a portable projection screen.

RenewalsAvailable using the Catalog. Books can generally be renewed unless on Hold for another user.
Theses & DissertationsLook up the specific title for a UAB health science thesis or dissertation in the Catalog using the subject term 'theses' or go to the Electronic Theses and Dissertation collection. Look up dissertations worldwide using the database 'Dissertation Abstracts.' For information on having your thesis or dissertation bound please click here.
