Access for Patrons with Disabilities

There are three bookdrop locations around the library:- Two bookdrops are located on each side of the street level entrance, back near the entrances to Volker Hall and the School of Optometry.
- An additional bookdrop is located by the curb behind the library on 7th Ave. near the loading dock.
Books
Find a book in Lister Hill Library with the catalog. Identify books by keyword, subject, author, title, or series.Purchase recommendations are welcome.
Circulation Privileges
- Books circulate for 4 weeks with two renewals possible.
- Print journals do not circulate.
- Remote access to electronic journals is limited by contract to current UAB faculty, staff, and students.
Community Services
Community Services at Lister Hill Library includes a range of consumer health information activities including but not limited to Health InfoNet of Alabama, a free health information service of the state medical and public libraries. LHL Librarians also provide significant coverage and services to the Patient Resource Library within the Kirklin Clinic.For more information contact Kay Hogan Smith.
Computers
A trifold brochure lists what is available on the library's public access computers, including DVD options and software packages such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.Databases

E-Reserves
E-Reserves (electronic course reserves) are available through LibGuides. Request items to be placed on reserve by completing the web form.Electronic Classroom
Electronic Classroom is unavailable for Spring 2013.Exam Proctoring
While we understand the needs surrounding exam proctoring, we are unable to proctor exams at Lister Hill Library due to space and staffing limitations.Explanation of Charges
Lister Hill Library's pricing policies are set by UAB.
Some of these rules include:- We cannot charge internal customers more than it costs to us to provide the service or product.
- We are required to recalculate prices periodically and adjust them accordingly.
Pay Online!
Pay library fines and ILL fees online with debit or credit card.
To determine the price you pay for products or services, we calculate exactly what it costs us to provide the service. That figure becomes the price. To that price we may be required to add a tax or surcharge.
We are required to send UAB Administration the 10% sales tax and 5% UAB surcharge on all money collected—excluding fees paid with UAB account numbers.
In essence, we are required to price everything to break even.

Fines for overdue library books and media per item, per day: $0.25-$1.00 (varies)
Fines for overdue equipment: $25.00 (per hour)
Express Training & Online Express Training
Need to hone your library skills or want to learn something new? Drop in to Express Training @ LHL for a quick session on Thursdays at noon in the Electronic Classroom on the ground floor of Lister Hill Library. The classes feature focused training with plenty of hands-on exercises and time for your questions. *Bring a (non-messy) brown bag lunch if you like; LHL will provide snacks and drinks.
Each class is also offered online on the following Monday at 3:00 pm. *Online classes take place from the comfort of your computer or tablet, but registration is required.

Theses & Dissertations
Look up the specific title for a UAB health science thesis or dissertation in the Catalog using the subject term 'theses' or go to the Electronic Theses and Dissertation collection. Look up dissertations worldwide using the database 'Dissertation Abstracts.'
