The Learning Resources Center (LRC) comprises the electronic media center for the School of Health Professions (SHP) and the School of Nursing (SON) and the Clinical Simulation and Skills labs. The facility currently sets the pace for other campus facilities in the use of learning technologies.

Audio-Visual Specialist II
AV Specialist II, Jason Lancaster, joined the LRC staff in July of 2010.I am originally from Boaz, AL. I graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Technology: Design and Production. Since the age of 15, I have dabbled in Audio Visual from running cameras, operating sound and lighting, and coordinating AV at my church; Operating sound and working backstage for Community Theatre @ Snead State Community College in Boaz and the Whole Backstage Community Theatre in Guntersville; as well as working on production staffs for quite a few concerts, conventions, and corporate events around the country.
My main goal here at the LRC is Customer Service, to help students and faculty as quickly and efficiently as possible. My duties here include Classroom AV support, Videography, Event Planning, Set-up and Data Entry. I am also over purchasing for the office and I oversee our Student Workers. Also, when you need CD/DVD duplications, I’m your guy!
Director of Clinical Simulation and Training
Penni Watts is currently the Director of Clinical Simulation and Training at the UAB Learning Resource Center servicing the School of Nursing and School of Health Professions. Her undergraduate nursing degree was completed at Auburn University Montgomery (1992) while finishing her master’s degree in adult health nursing education at Troy State University (1996). Her doctoral studies are underway and focus on evaluation in nursing simulation evaluation and informatics. Mrs. Watts has been instrumental in the integration of simulation experiences for health professions and is now helping lead efforts to increase and improve interprofessional learning opportunities across the UAB Campus. Recently she was named a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Scholar for her work with facilitating nursing faculty from Zambia and Brazil in their simulation and skills lab efforts. She has spoken nationally and internationally on her work in simulation and has been an invited podium presenter for pre-conferences for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning conference. Research interests include evaluation in simulation, team performance and training, and interprofessional simulations.
Audio Visual Specialist II
Alvin Lowery comes to us with a background in television production. His career path has been as following. Production assistant for ESPN and ABC Sports, Television news and sports videographer, stage hand, videographer and technical director for rock and roll concerts. Alvin also served as video production specialist for (AMCOM) The Aviation and Missile Command in Huntsville Al. He was also a video production specialist for (NASA) National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Alvin also worked as a wedding videographer for AVO Communications where he helped the company win the wedding videography company of the year in 2010. In 2010 Alvin also was runner up at NASA for videographer of the year along with 2 other co-workers for the video documentation of NASA’s Student Launch Initiative. One of Alvin’s awards that he covets most is his music video that he edited for the Von Braun Exploration for NASA with John Denver song Children of the Universe where he won an ADDY AWARD.
