LRC 114 is one of two facilities with two-way, interactive video teleconferencing capabilities. It can accommodate up to 50 people. Teleconferencing is accomplished through a video codec, which can transmit and receive either ISDN or IP sessions. Multiple video cameras provide several vantage points in each room. A variety of media can be incorporated into class presentations, such as computer displays, videotapes, CDs, DVDs, 35mm slides, overhead transparencies, opaque materials and objects, and audio CDs. A touch screen menu of these media allow the instructor to easily switch from one to another.
The facilities can be used for recording a series of class sessions. The recordings could then placed on reserve at the Information Desk for later viewing by students who may want to review the content or by students enrolled in independent study courses. Oftentimes, class recordings are streamed, via Blackboard Vista, and incorporated into the online versions of various courses.
The LRC also has a portable IP teleconference codec that may be used in any classroom that the LRC manages. This codec is best used by small groups in a conference style room.
