Patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) present with non-specific symptoms, but are common in primary care. Most patients are not diagnosed with HFpEF until they develop acute exacerbation and go to the ED. A validated score, based on clinical data, was recently developed to aid early identification of patients at risks of HFpEF.

Dr. Yulia Khodneva, MD, a primary care physician and a UAB researcher has received an award from the NIH to develop an intervention to help primary care providers in diagnosis of HFpEF, based on a scoring system implemented in the electronic medical records. To develop the intervention her team needs input from healthcare practitioners. The study includes a brief interview with primary care providers and an anonymous online survey. The intervention will focus on improving diagnostic process, decreasing physician burden and time spent on synthesizing information and streamlining the referral process.

The goal of Improving Diagnosis of HFPEF in Primary Care is to gain insight from practitioners to inform intervention development and implementation to best serve you and those patients living with and HFpEF that you care for. This study is open to licensed MD, DO, PA, or APRN and practicing in primary care the United States. Participation will consist of a 20-minute interview via zoom followed by a brief questionnaire which will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and the entire process will last about 35 minutes.
