Dedicated MHRC training alumni are the lifeblood of the MHRC. The Alumni Program encourages fellowship and networking among past, present, and future trainees.

MHRC alumni are highly valued members of our community. We encourage anyone who has participated in an MHRC training program to stay involved by speaking at events, mentoring current trainees, and taking part in community outreach as well as recruiting students to the program.

The MHRC Alumni Program keeps alumni connected via the UAB MHRC Alumni Group on LinkedIn. A job bulletin provides links to information on current job postings in the field of health disparities.

Alumni Testimonials

“The Health Disparities Research Training Program (HDRTP) was a great opportunity to connect with nationally-renowned senior scientists and emerging investigators who are doing very important health disparities research. In addition to the training and networking opportunities provided by the program, HDRTP also helped me to be focused and highly productive by hosting retreats for scholars to focus on manuscript and grant preparation. HDRTP has definitely helped to prepare me for a successful career in health disparities research.“
— Tiffany L. Carson, PhD, Assistant Professor, Division of Preventive Medicine and 2013 Health Disparities Research Training Program Alumna

“Some of the best things about the Summer Enrichment Program are the connections I made. I still use those connections and friendships today, and I’m planning to focus on preventive medicine because of them.”
— Ebony Davis, Fourth Year Student, UAB Heersink School of Medicine

“The Summer Cancer Research Training Program exposed me to the work of amazing cancer disparities investigators as I considered my career path. I couldn’t have chosen a better training environment.”
—Bertha Hidalgo, PhD, MPH, SCRTP alumna and Assistant Professor, Epidemiology, UAB Ryals School for Public Health
