The 36-chapter book is co-edited by downs, Cynthia J. Roberts, PhD, and William J. Dupps, MD, PhD.

Downs authored three chapters of the book, as well as the introduction. Rafael Grytz, PhD, and Brian Samuels, PhD, of UAB Ophthalmology also authored and co-authored 2 chapters.

Book Front“This book really highlights the best and brightest minds in the field of ocular biomechanics,” says Downs. “Ocular biomechanics is a relatively new field that is growing quickly. The ideas behind the science have been around for over 150 years, but it wasn’t until the 1980s that the engineering technology to analyze and answer some of these ideas was available. These new techniques had been previously applied to other fields, but in the 1980s the technology was advanced enough to apply to the eye—and hence the beginning of ocular biomechanics.”
