Why I Chose UAB: I chose to come to UAB for residency because I knew that it would help me become a great physician and clinician educator, and I chose to stay for fellowship for the same reasons.  UAB Rheumatology has world-class faculty, and we’re exposed to a wide array of pathology and get to take care of diverse patient populations at UAB, the VA, and Cooper Green.  Additionally, Birmingham is a beautiful and easy place to live.

Why I Chose UAB: I could write an essay on this but will try to keep it short. I had the opportunity to work in the Department as a visiting Resident and was able to see firsthand how happy and enthusiastic the fellows were with the training they were receiving, and how approachable and incredibly friendly the faculty was. From early on, I gathered a sense of a warm, and welcoming environment. The wide variety of clinical, educational, and research opportunities that the program offers, and with some of the field's best clinicians and researchers as my future mentors here, I will be well-equipped with the skills needed to provide high-quality clinical care and achieve my career goals. And finally, I really like Birmingham.

Why I Chose UAB: I chose UAB for the people! It's one of the best hospitals and Rheumatology programs in the country, and yet the people are so friendly and down to earth.

Why I chose UAB: I chose UAB for its diverse, extraordinary training program. Whether you are interested in the clinical or research domains of Rheumatology, UAB has outstanding opportunities for you. I am delighted to work with stellar faculty members, who welcomed me to the UAB family from day one.

  • T. Alex Edgil, MD

Why I chose UAB: When initially applying for programs, I knew I wanted to train at a place with a diverse patient population, research opportunities, and an emphasis on teaching. I was specifically impressed with the educational sessions and commitment to learning both didactically and hands-on with patients. Additionally, there are world-renowned leaders in rheumatology that practice at UAB who make a prominent impact on clinical expertise internationally while still serving as attendings in clinic and on rotations. The tight knit program means one-on-one mentoring is not just available but essentially built-in, and graduates of the program often speak of their enjoyment about training here. Birmingham is a growing city that has opportunities for people of all stages of life, and I knew that matching at UAB would be a perfect fit for the next stage of training!

Why I chose UAB: I chose UAB because of so many reasons! They have great clinical training, multiple different research opportunities, and outstanding faculty. The approach is individualized and focuses on the needs and interests of each trainee. Despite the fact that the interviews were virtual, I could sense a strong impression of friendliness from all the faculty members and the fellows. I was sure I would feel like home and achieve all my professional goals here.
